School

5. Most adults miss their childhood. “Your school years are the __________________(GOOD) years of your life,” — have you ever heard that phrase? Just recently, while I was on my way to work, I started thinking back to my own school years. They probably were not troublefree but there __________________(BE) many reasons for us to feel happy at school. One of them was spending every single day with friends. Yes, in my opinion, the school uniform had more advantages than disadvantages. __________________(MY) was dark green. It was unfashionable but comfortable. 11. Tracey was very unhappy and scared. She was starting a new school.

19Last spring my best friend Isabelle and I booked a holiday in Venice. We rented a small apartment for a week with a __________________(WONDER) view of the town. At the last moment another friend, Linda, asked if she could come with us. She was a __________________(FRIEND), cheerful girl and we were glad to have her join us. 34Lots of people enjoy spending time at the seaside. Some of them like diving very much. They say that underwater life is very_____________ (BEAUTY). However, for most of us scuba diving is _____________ (POSSIBLE). Snorkeling is much easier. It is also less _____________ (DANGER) than diving with an aqualung. Snorkeling _______________ (EQUIP) contains only a special mask and a curved tube. Holidays

7. It was Friday evening. Liz was looking forward to Saturday because it was her husband’s birthday.

She had been preparing for this event for a long time. She had invited __________________(THEY) college friends and they were all coming from different cities. The best part was that Carlos, her husband, __________________(NOT/KNOW) anything about the arrangements. It was going to be a surprise. Education( learning English)

8. After school, I decided to go to university. I __________________(CHOOSE) St Andrews University in Scotland. At that time I __________________(NOT/KNOW) much about the University but when I arrived there, I liked it at once. Now I'm in my last year and I wish I __________________(CAN) stay here forever! St Andrews University is a truly special place. It __________________(BUILD) 600 years ago and it is one of the oldest universities in the English-speaking world. It has many traditions – for example, the ‘May Dip’. It is held on the __________________(ONE) of May every year. All the students run into the North Sea at sunrise to celebrate the coming of spring and for good luck in their exams! One of my classmates said that the tradition __________________(HELP)him to pass his exams last summer. For me the ‘May Dip’ was the __________________(COLD) experience of my life! Because the weather is famously cold, St Andrews students designed __________________(THEY) own uniform which consists of a warm jacket, jeans and boat shoes. 5Millions of people want to learn English. There are lots of __________________(DIFFER) methods and the main problem is how to choose the best one. Some people believe that the most __________________(EFFECT) way is to study English in Britain or in any other English-speaking country. The advantage of going to Britain seems obvious. Everyone around you speaks English. It’s practically __________________(POSSIBLE) to avoid communication, so you’ll learn English __________________(QUICK). On the other hand, one can learn English at home. There are lots of possibilities there too: a good __________________(TEACH), a language school or an on-line course. There are many ways to get a good language __________________(EDUCATE) now.

England

7. The city of St Davids is situated on the south-west coast of Wales. If you're looking for an __________________(USUAL) place to go, this is your destination. It was granted city status by Queen Elizabeth II but in reality St Davids looks like an __________________(ATTRACT) small village. It is actually the smallest city in Britain with a __________________(POPULATE) of just over 1,600. St Davids has a __________________(BEAUTY) medieval cathedral which dates back to the 12th century. Today it is a __________________(CHARM) place with narrow streets filled with cafes, hotels and art galleries — but only one pub! St Davids is famous for its sandy beaches and clear water. 18. Dublin is the capital city of the Republic of Ireland. It has an ____________(NATIONAL) airport with flights from London and European capitals. Food

37. For some reason British food does not have the best reputation in the world. A few years ago I asked a ____________ (VISIT) to Britain about the local food. He described it as tasteless and __________________ (BORE). I cannot agree with his opinion and find his words totally __________________ (FAIR). For a start, British desserts and cakes are so good that British school children are often punished with ' no pudding' if they don't behave __________________ (PROPER). And apart from the desserts there are lots of fantastic traditional British dishes, including the __________________ (FAME) full English breakfast, mouth-watering sandwiches, and delicious soups. Britain has amazing vegetarian restaurants and all the __________________ (NATIONAL) food you could possibly imagine, including Italian pasta restaurants, Indian curry houses and Japanese sushi bars. Lots of foreigners return home with much better stories about British food.

38. I'm absolutely sure that people's opinion of British food is based on ignorance. They say we eat potatoes with everything.
